Awaz Sayeed’s Short Stories
Story Overview:
A gaunt, solitary man walks through a deserted, foggy street at the end of a winter night, clutching a blood-stained dagger. Despite having committed a murder that he considers monumental, he feels both triumphant and desperate for recognition, longing for someone to acknowledge his act as heroic. The silence of the night and the indifference of the few people he encounters—policemen who ignore him and townsfolk who remain hidden—leave him feeling isolated and unimportant, even as he yearns for validation.
As dawn breaks, the murderer witnesses a ghostly funeral procession and is struck by the blindness and indifference of the pallbearers. When morning comes and factory workers fill the street, they pass by without noticing him or his bloody weapon, deepening his sense of insignificance. Overcome by frustration and loneliness, he runs wildly through the crowd, finally drawing attention and remarks from passersby. In this fleeting moment of recognition, he feels a strange sense of completion, as if his fragmented existence has finally found its conclusion.
